Frequently Asked Questions

About DOKODEMO Door®, VR, and the Metaverse

Can I try it for free?

Yes. Dokodemo Door® offers many worlds that you can enjoy completely free of charge. We recommend using a VR headset (Meta Quest 3) for the best experience, but you can also access it from a PC or smartphone.

Can anyone publish their own world (video content)?

Yes. Whether you're an individual or a company, anyone can create a world and publish it for the world to see.

How is this different from other metaverse platforms like VRChat?

Most metaverse platforms today are built with CG (computer graphics). Dokodemo Door® is different because it's built with real, live-action footage. This lets you experience a place almost as if you were really there.

Is this the same as VR videos on YouTube?

YouTube began offering VR video streaming in the fall of 2022. The key difference is interactivity: YouTube only streams video one-way, while Dokodemo Door® lets you enter the video itself and talk with others in real time. Whether it's a tour guide, a training instructor, or fellow participants, the ability to connect with people is one of Dokodemo Door®'s defining features.

Can I walk around freely inside the metaverse?

In worlds built from 360° video, you can move around to a limited degree, but since the space itself is video footage, true "free walking" isn't possible. With our new Gaussian VR technology, however, 3D spaces do allow free walking through facilities and buildings. This uses a different filming method, so if you're interested, please contact us separately for more information.

How do I film 360° video?

Just like VR headsets, 360° cameras aren't yet widely owned. That said, many members of the Dokodemo Door® community have already filmed footage, built worlds, and published them, so you're welcome to ask questions and get advice within the community. The best camera model depends on what you want to shoot and your budget, so we encourage you to make use of the community.

What is the corporate usage fee?

Normally, when people take part in a world or event your company has created, each participant registers for their own Dokodemo Door® account. In some cases, however, companies choose to let an unspecified number of people use a single company account instead of requiring individual registration (for example, at demo events or within a facility). In these cases, a corporate usage fee applies.

What is the incentive program?

As described here, we pay incentives — to individuals and companies alike — as a referral fee for bringing in new users. (Note: since member registration is required, users covered under a corporate account, without individual registration, are not counted toward the incentive.)

Can I use it on a smartphone instead?

Dokodemo Door® works on both smartphones and PCs, but unfortunately the "as if you're really there" feeling that a VR headset provides is hard to replicate on other devices. VR headsets are available for affordable rental, so we'd encourage you to try it with one if you can.

About One-on-One Consultations

Do I really need to do a demo? It sounds like a hassle...

We understand the hesitation, but of the 2,000+ people who have tried our demo so far, most only truly understand Dokodemo Door® — that "oh, so that's what it is!" moment — after experiencing it firsthand. Since VR headsets still aren't widely available in Japan, it's completely normal not to have a clear picture of this unique experience beforehand. We know it takes a bit of effort, but we'd really appreciate the chance to have you try the demo before we talk further.

Are there any requirements for the meeting location?

No special equipment or setup is needed — we can run the Dokodemo Door® demo in your regular meeting space. If we're able to use your company's Wi-Fi, the demo will run even more smoothly (we do bring mobile connections as backup, but speeds can vary depending on location).

Is there a limit on how many people can join?

The purpose of the demo is for everyone to experience the Dokodemo Door® metaverse in VR firsthand, so that the discussion afterward starts from shared understanding. For that reason, we recommend that all relevant stakeholders — including decision-makers — try the demo at least once. (In the past, we've had companies bring as many as 20 people through the demo one by one.) There's no strict limit, so please feel free to ask.

We don't have much meeting space — could you come to us instead?

Yes, that works too. If you're near Tokyo or Fukuoka, we can arrange a space to meet — please reach out anytime.

Even if we do the demo, we're not sure we'll sign a contract...

Not a problem at all. The demo is simply meant to be a starting point — trying Dokodemo Door® in VR — and it in no way obligates you to sign anything afterward. Our main goal is simply to have you take that first step into the "reality metaverse."

Could you just send us materials instead? We think we'll understand from those.

In the past, most people who only reviewed materials came away without really grasping what makes Dokodemo Door® special. Because of that, we currently prioritize the demo experience, even though it takes more effort on our end. That said, more and more people have now tried it firsthand, so if you feel confident that materials alone will be enough, we're happy to send them — just reach out through our contact form.
